Have you accomplished what you set out to accomplish so far this Toastmaster year? If you are a fairly new toastmaster, did you complete at least one Level in Pathways? Or, as a seasoned member did you lay the groundwork to achieving your Distinguished Toastmaster award? Having clearly established goals aids tremendously in the process of achieving those goals.  Do not forget to have “SMART” goals.  Goals should be Specific, METROeasurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.

Along the path you may encounter some obstacles or roadblocks, such as procrastination.  See procrastination for what it is, just a noun.  Push past it, and take steps to set and record your goals. 

How are you going to achieve your goals?  What is your plan of action? How often will you need to give a speech to reach your goal by year end?  For clubs, it is very important that you create a Club Success Plan detailing how the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals will be achieved.  Utilize the resources available to assist you and your club.  District sponsored officer training is essential for officers to learn how to create a quality club. 

To ensure you reach your goals, evaluate your progress periodically.  At mid-year if you have not given the number of speeches in your action plan, it is time to reassess and determine why. Reel in those organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.  Proceed with renewed energy and enthusiasm rather than with hesitation, sluggishness, or apathy.  If you are passionate about your goals, it is not drudgery or work- it’s something fun that you look forward to doing.  Is the glass half-full or half-empty?
