Leadership Matters

By Angela Tornes, DTM, 2015-2016 D43 Director | April 2024

Approaching the final stretch of any endeavor, including the end of a Toastmasters term, June 30, 2024, can be exciting and an opportunity to finish strong. As Toastmasters leaders the last 90 days present a critical opportunity to solidify your achievements and leave a lasting impact. Let’s explore some strategies to maximize success during this vital period and ensure a Distinguished finish.

Strategy One: Reflect on Past Achievements

Before diving into the final leg of your term, take some time to reflect on your journey so far. Celebrate your accomplishments, acknowledge challenges you’ve overcome, and identify lessons learned. Reflecting on past achievements can provide valuable insights and motivation as you approach the remaining 90 days with renewed vigor and purpose. Visualize the success of each member, each club, and your success; if you believe then you are halfway there!

Strategy Two: Set Clear Goals

Define specific, measurable goals that you aim to accomplish by the end of your term; June 30, 2024. I recommend visiting the Toastmasters Performance Dashboard weekly and aligning goals according to the club’s desires; the Club’s Success Plan, Area & Division Success Plan, and/or the District Success Plan.  These success plans were the guidance for the year, however, we are nearing the end therefore break down these goals into actionable steps and prioritize them based on their importance and urgency. Setting clear objectives will help you stay focused and motivated, guiding your efforts during the final phase of your term.

Strategy Three: Create a Strategic Plan

Okay, now that we have reflected, reviewed, and prioritized our goals let’s develop an easy-flowing action plan.  The action plan should only focus on how the clubs/members will achieve goals within the next 90 days. Identify key milestones, deadlines, and resources needed to execute your plan effectively. Consider potential obstacles and develop contingency plans “Plan B” to address them proactively. Having a well-defined strategy will provide clarity and direction as everyone navigates the final stretch to a Distinguished term.

Organize tasks and responsibilities efficiently to make the most of your time. Use productivity tools, such as calendars, to schedule your activities and allocate sufficient time for essential tasks. Break larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks, and tackle them systematically. Visit the D56 website to stay connected and earn district incentives.

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there, recognized by Theodore Roosevelt; maintaining momentum is crucial during the final 90 days of the term. Keep an open mind, stay disciplined, and be committed to the goals, even when faced with challenges or setbacks. Find sources of inspiration and motivation to keep you energized and focused on achieving success.

As we embark on the last 90 days of the 2023-2024 Toastmasters term, remember that success is within reach with belief, dedication, perseverance, and strategic planning. By reflecting on past achievements, setting clear goals, staying organized, and prioritizing self-care, you can maximize your effectiveness and leave a lasting impact. Embrace the final stretch with confidence and determination, knowing that your efforts will culminate in a successful conclusion to a Distinguished term!
